Reges Code is a free, local-first AI code editor that runs on your machine.
Reges Code at a glance
Reges Code is a free, local-first AI code editor for developers and software teams that runs on your own machine and supports local or free cloud AI models.
Good for
- Developers who want to use local AI models (like LM Studio or Ollama) without their code leaving the machine
- Programmers who want free cloud AI models without hitting a credit wall
- Teams who want multiple AI models (planner, coder, reviewer, security, judge) to check each other's work before accepting a change

Questions people ask
Is Reges Code free?
Yes, it is free while in beta. Using local models or free cloud models costs nothing, and it never switches to a paid model on its own.
Does my code leave my computer?
Not if you use a local model, since Reges Code detects runtimes like LM Studio, Ollama, vLLM, llama.cpp, Jan, and Lemonade on your machine. If you choose a cloud model, only the prompts you send go to that provider.
What happens if a free model is rate-limited?
It automatically switches to the next free option, and once the daily free limit is reached it falls back to your local model instead of asking you to pay.
What is Reges Swarm?
It's a built-in pipeline of five model roles (architect, coder, reviewer, security, judge) that plan, write, review, and judge a coding task together, using free and local models unless you allow paid ones.
Which operating systems does it support?
Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) are supported now; Linux and macOS builds are in progress.

Is Reges Code production-ready?
Legit.Show scores Reges Code 74 out of 100 — the simple average of its 5 measured frames. Legit.Show ran its deterministic 7-Frame production-readiness benchmark on Reges Code (public-surface assessment), measured from the public surface with no LLM in the scoring path. Its strongest frame is Discoverability; its weakest is Privacy. 5 of the seven frames returned a score; Performance and Accessibility were not measurable on this service and are recorded as null — not as zero. Every frame it averages is published with its evidence on the Legit.Show listing.
