Krypton is a closed, invitation-only social network with end-to-end encryption.
Krypton at a glance
Krypton is an invitation-only social network for people who already know each other, where posts, photos, replies, profiles, and voice calls are end-to-end encrypted so the server cannot read them.
Good for
- People who want to share posts and photos only with people they personally know, not strangers or the public
- People who want their chats and calls encrypted by default without needing to turn on a special mode
- People who want to join without giving a phone number or email, using an invitation from an existing member instead
Pricing
Free to join. Krypton+ adds more storage and features (larger uploads, bigger group chats); no price listed.
Questions people ask
How do I join Krypton?
Only through someone who is already a member: they send you an invitation link, or you apply through their link and they confirm they know you.
How many people need to vouch for me to become a full member?
You need two backers: the person who invited you, and the first other person you become 'fam' with. For the first 1,000 people, one backer is enough.
Can Krypton's server read my posts, photos, or name?
No. Posts, replies, photos, and profiles are encrypted on your device before they leave it, and your name travels sealed inside your encrypted profile card, so the server only ever holds unreadable ciphertext.
Where is my list of contacts (fam) stored?
On your phone. The server doesn't know who your fam are and only keeps an encrypted backup it can't open; Krypton never uploads your contacts.
Can someone take a screenshot of my content in Krypton?
No. Screenshots and screen recordings of the app come out black on both iPhone and Android, and the screen's owner is told if someone attempts it.
